The Community Summit is a discussion-based event that requires participation of truly diverse voices and perspectives in order to work on the WordPress project and the problems we encounter within it. Summit attendance has always been by invitation-only, with the goal of keeping discussion groups small enough that everyone present can interact and participate.
No decisions will be made at the Summit. All decisions pertaining to the future of the WordPress open source project are made in writing and in public, via the Make WordPress blogs. As such, key takeaways and recommendations from Community Summit discussions will be documented and shared on Make WordPress blogs, for anyone to read and comment on.
Community Summit discussions will focus on topics that require cross-team or project-wide discourse. The Community Summit is not intended to be a forum for team-specific discussions. The Community Summit organizing team received many topic submissions that – while important – are suitable for team-specific discussions. The Community Summit organizing team will share these team-specific topic submissions with the corresponding Make Teams, and Make Teams are encouraged to use Contributor Days to advance these focused, team-specific discussions.
Please note that the Summit is not intended to be:
- A “Who’s Who” in WordPress
- An assemblage of the people who have made the most important contributions to the project
- A forum to advance team-specific discussions (this is a purpose of Contributor Day)
- A pathway to learn about contributing to the project (this is a purpose of Contributor Day; though could be a side benefit of Summit participation)
